APLF Color & Material Trends Fall/Winter 2010/2011

The contradictions of this century disorient us: things are changing and threaten to upset the way we live.

The spirit of fashion for Fall-Winter 2010/2011 will express this evolution in two simultaneous ways:

1. A demand for quality, authenticity, safe values, protection and alternative energies.

2. A need for personalisation and individual freedom, which will bounce off restraints and radiate optimism. These two currents will guide our tastes and desires, leading to a fresh burst of creativity, innovation and non conformism.A context ideal for daring, surprising styles. Somewhere between EMOTIONS and SENSATIONS, the coming season will be a time of optimistic fashion, expressed through four themes full of contrasts and paradoxes:

EMOTION-IMPULSE: feel!

SENSATION-LUXURY: touch!

EMOTION-PERFORMANCE: move!

SENSATION-GLAMOUR: enjoy!

WILD GIRL

Hi! You must know Jessica Szohr from Gossip Girl. Well, I know her and I find her style to die, like Rachel Zoe would say. I like how she keeps it a little wild, but at the same time with a layer of polishiment. Take a look!

One Luv

You may never heard about site FADMASHION, if not, you better take a look. This site serves as a platform and launch pad for new disigners and to find new talent in fashion. It was there I found the One Luv whose designer is Dina Ochwada. In her words "this is a brand that aspires to keep in the front line and push the boundaries for those who want a fresh new style before the rest ." I especially like the fact that as colour.

To like The Like

Yesterday I was on the Internet when I discovered a new girls band, The Like. This alternative rock band consists of four girls from Southern California, Elizabeth "Z" Berg (vocals / guitar), laena Geronimo (bass), Tennessee Thomas (drums / vocals) and Annie Monroe (organ). What is also interesting is that these girls are daughters of figures of music with some importance. Elizabeth's father is the producer of Geffen called Tony Berg, the father of Charlotte is the producer Mitchell Froom, and the father of Tennesssee, Pete Thomas, is the longtime drummer for Elvis Costello. Not only they have this biological background, they still manage to make the perfect connection between  music and style.

I liked what I heard  quite a lot, but I liked what I saw even more. Once I knew a little about the musical influences, which are the musical groups of girls of the '60s, the Beatles, Stones, Kinks, The Who and Motown and Wrecking Crew, I realized why these girls are giving that talk not only music scene.

In fashion, we are always making trips to the past to gather inspiration and bring tothe present the essence of those times and use it to create new forms, giving them a single language. With The Like, we can see exactly this process.

You may know a little more about them here!

I like The Like!

Rodarte style for Everyone

When looking to a fashion show or to a fashion editoril, the styling seems the simplest thing, but when we go shopping or when we open the doors of our wardrobe seems to have entered the twilight zone where nothing makes sense no matter how much the effort. With this in mind, the Mullevy sisters shows us how to mix up their new holliday collection for Target.
"Laura and I were inspired to do this collection by the films that transformed our youth. Harold and Maude, Rosemary's Baby and Bonnie and Clyde are all movies with interesting, free-spirited women who question the status quo. We didn't want to create clothes that literally looked like they belonged in those films, but instead we wanted to capture the feeling of their worlds. We have been collaborating with Autumn de Wilde since our first show. Her photographs bring out the spirit of our work and reveal moments that we would have never seen unless she were there to capture them." Kate Mulleavy, Rodarte.

“Brief Encounter

In the new February issue of Vogue Sean "Diddy" Combs and Natalia Vodianov share a little more than camera. In this editorial the two share a whirlwind train station romance, captured by the lens of Annie Leibovitz.
It´s a classical Hollywood love story.

Sarah Jessica Parker to Consult for Halston

Many media outlets are reporting news of film star and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker's upcoming role as designer and/or consultant at the house of Halston. A source at Halston told PAPERMAG that SJP will actually be a member of the company's board and will receive equity in the company. Company insiders insist all designing will be handled by creative director Marios Schwab and shudder at comparisons to the House of Ungaro which has suffered ridicule for it's affiliation with actress Lindsay Lohan.

Rio Fashion Week 2010

This week Rio De Janiero is running mad as the host of Brazilian fashion week, under the title 'Olympic and Marvelous'. Designers are set to showcase their collections across three remodelled warehouse locations, the perfect eerie backdrops to an array of unique creations.

In true Brazilian style, the fashions so far on display have included vibrant, flirtatious designs amidst mysterious, gothic inspired creations. Label Mara Mac'a 2010 Autumn/Winter collection worked the trench coat with vibrant splashes of citrus, whilst colour was abundant in the rainbow hairstyles seen on the Coven runway. Our personal favourite so far has been the runway of Auslander, with designer Ricardo Brautigam explaining his collection as 'gothic rock surrealist glamour'. Models wore sheer polka dot gloves adorned with fierce spikes, giving off a contrast between feminine and soft and that of hard edge gothic glam. Models faces were painted white and worked with the overall black palette of the collection.
